President's Message
|
Happy New Year to all RSES CANADA Members! It will be a bit belated by the time you read this, but my wishes to you are most sincere.
Keeping costs in mind, the RSES CANADA Board did have a teleconference call in November, as we said we would in the last Bulletin. It was most productive, and very cost-effective.

Later last November I was fortunate enough to attend the RSES International Conference in Tucson, Arizona. It was an excellent event attended by RSES members from Alaska to St. John’s Newfoundland, the southern States, and all points in between. RSES CANADA was well represented by at least six members from across Canada, and in many cases, their families as well.
These events are always fun as well as educational. You must attend some! On the lighter side, I have many stories from this last trip about being locked out of my room in my sleep wear, losing my wallet and dealing with Hotel Security, and of being questioned by the (well-armed and dog-assisted) U.S. Homeland Security Border Patrol, well inside the U.S. / Mexico border. (We’ll have to talk…)
On a more serious side, it must be noted that Garth Denison CMS, made his “swan song” at that Conference by giving “his final” presentation for RSES, since he “finally” and officially retired before that Conference took place. (More on that to follow.) This year, RSES CANADA will be having its annual AGM at the NB/PEI Spring Seminar in Moncton, New Brunswick. Denis Hebert CM and the local Chapter Executive have been working hard in conjunction with Nick Reggi CMS to set this event up.
Please note that Garth Denison CMS (I told you there would be more to follow…) will be coming out of retirement and driving down to make a presentation on screw compressors at the Seminar. His volunteering to do this shows the love, respect, and dedication that most RSES members have for the organization and for its membership. Our many and most sincere thanks to you, Garth!

The NB-PEI Seminar/RSES CANADA AGM will take place on Friday May 6 and Saturday May 7, 2011 at the Ramada Plaza Crystal Palace & Convention Centre Greater Moncton. Additional details will be found elsewhere in this Bulletin issue. I and the Board Members hope to see you there.
As a reminder, I ask that all of you all take advantage of the excellent training materials and membership items offered by RSES INTERNATIONAL through its web site at www.rses.org There can be no alternative to, nor replacement for knowledge! Please encourage your colleagues to join this tremendous organization. Simply sign in with your membership number and create a password.
We are still attempting to work diligently with RSES INTERNATIONAL to maintain and increase membership. Some internal changes which have recently occurred at RSES INTERNATIONAL are making this a bit difficult to achieve at the moment, but we at RSES CANADA are still trying. Please bear with us!
Be well, be happy, and please work conscientiously and safely.
My very best regards to all,,
Lorne Lowry, CMS
President, RSES Canada
